18th c French Fiddle Thread & Shell .958 fine Silver Platter Stuffing Spoon 1750 Antique
This spoon was made by Louis-Édouard Legros in Paris in 1750. It is first standard .958 fine silver better than sterling. I tried to price this as if it was Tiffany or Gorham or any modern company. Of course it is not quite the same, as this was hand made, by a master silversmith, it is a higher grade silver, it is also probably bigger and heavier than a modern piece. It is engraved with a star over a count’s crown, which if you check was probably your ancestor’s crest. It is 32 cm long 12.5 inches. It weighs 175.3 gm or 5.64 troy oz. It is in very good condition, with nice patina.
