Antique Carl Zeiss Jena microscope #144457 - Circa 1920
I inherited this Carl Zeiss Jena microscope from my father. I also have another Carl Zeiss Jena microscope #96045 listed on ebay.
I reached out to Zeiss and had their historian get back to me with the circa date and the description below from their archives:

Description: | The new tripods A, B, C and the travel microscope are provided with a new type of fine movement ( Fine gear movement according to Meyer ). This is based on the use of gears, which interlock like clockwork and replace the usual micrometer screw. They are precise and keep their reliable intervention in the long run. They work without dead gear and provide a finer adjustment than the vertical micrometer screw. The value of the adjustment is read on the partial drum of the drive button. Each interval is approximately 0.002 mm. A full revolution gives a adjustment of 0.1 mm. As a result of the lever transmission, however, the movement is not an actual measuring device because the displacement of the tube is not the same at all points in the movement. The mechanism is completely dust-free and maintenance-free. Tripod A is a medium tripod in two versions. As a tripod ASA, it is offered as a new bacterial microscope. The tripod AS has a side screw under the table with which the capacitor can be adjusted in height and folded out. The setting is e.g. important for dark field capacitors, and the fold-out makes it easier to change the type of lighting. This form of tripod thus forms the transition to the larger tripods with a Abbesche lighting apparatus. We recommend them especially for diagnostic work and if the work to be carried out frequently changes the type of lighting ( e.g. between dark and light field lighting ). The light field capacitors to be used are those with iris diaphragm, because the tripod itself has no iris cover. Shoot lighting can only be produced to a limited extent. The AS shape has a folding piece under the condenser sleeve for inserting colored glasses, special panels and other aids. |
